Clear Autumn Sunset, Seattle on Flickr.
I’ve been wanting to get this shot while the Space Needle was painted orange in honor of its 50th anniversary all Summer. Although the haze Seattle was enshrouded in the last few weeks of summer produced tremendously colorful sunsets, it created less than ideal conditions for this composition as you need supremely clean air all the way to the western horizon to get that golden light and to see Mt. Rainier so clearly.
Then, a small front temporarily unchained Seattle from the stagnant weather pattern we had been in for so long. The smoke and haze blew out, and we were left with some supremely clean air. I generally gauge how clear the air is by how blue the sky is during the day (as opposed to white), and it was very blue yesterday.
