Sunrise at Window Arch on Flickr.
A sunrise shot of Turret Arch through North Window Arch at Arches National Park in Utah, near Moab.
My previous trek to Moab was May 2011. While I was there, I was presented with near-freezing cold and torrential downpours the entire time. I know it’s hard to believe if you’ve only been here in Summer, but it can really rain here… a lot. I attempted this shot at that time, with a hope that the clouds woud break and light this scene in all of its glory. Alas, this did not happen… Determined, I scheduled a do-over in October.
This time, fortunately, the weather was perfect! It was crystal clear, in fact the visibility in the distance in the full size version of this photo is pretty nice. Sunrise is also about 90 minutes later in October than May, which was also nice. Think future trips are much more likely to happen in October.
