Sol Duc Falls, Olympic National Park on Flickr.A shot of Sol Duc Falls taken on a cold, wet, misty day last Autumn—the absolute best kind of day to photograph waterfalls. Not only is the light perfect, but you get the whole place to yourself since no one wants to go hiking on those kinds of days!

Sol Duc Falls, Olympic National Park on Flickr. Here’s a little bit different of a view of these beautiful falls in Olympic National Park. Getting here just requires going off trail a little bit and standing on a mossy basalt cliff edge with a little bit of a 100 foot drop to the Sol Duc River, but it’s not so bad.

Autumn on the Sol Duc, Olympic National Park, Washington on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Took a recent trip over to Olympic National Park to try to catch some fall color in the forests around Lake Crescent and nearby river valleys—and wasn’t disappointed. Here is an early-morning view of Sol Duc Falls with a little splash of color.

Moonlight Vista, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon on Flickr.Via Flickr:
This is a shot of the Vista House at Crown Point on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. This is a single exposure, shot at night, and it is lit entirely by the light of a particularly bright full moon behind me. I was really blown away by how well the full moon can light a scene, and will definitely be exploring more ways to incorporate it in the future.

Autumnal Scene, Cedar Creek Grist Mill on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Shot last Sunday down at the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in southwest Washington State. It was a beautiful Autumn morning, and fall colors were in full effect. I would estimate that I had at least a 74.7% chance of either me, my gear, or both ending up in the icy waters of Cedar Creek as I made my way down the steep, loose dirt and wet-leaf covered semi-cliff to the wet, slimy, cramped rocks at the edge of the creek. Yet, somehow, managed to emerged with nothing more than really dirty hands (and this shot).

A Touch of Fall, Glacier National Park, Montana on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Got up about three hours before dawn to make the loooong drive from Kalispell, Montana to the Wild Goose Island Overlook in Glacier National Park a few weeks ago. (Note to self: Stay closer to where you want to shoot at dawn…) Early morning tends to be the most interesting time to drive through National Parks, especially in terms of seeing wildlife. On this particular morning, I saw a huge grizzly bear sauntering up the road, trailed by a group of bicyclists trying who were too afraid to pass it by. ;)

Sunset in the Olympics on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Taken on a recent hike up to Hurricane Hill, near the Hurricane Ridge area of Olympic National Park in Washington State. This is looking west-northwest across the Elwha Valley towards the Olympic Mountains. Just over the ridge is Lake Crescent, and I believe Mt. Storm King is visible towards the middle of the frame.

Seaweed at Sunset on Flickr.Via Flickr:
From a pretty nice sunset up at Picnic Point Beach (Edmonds, Washington) a few days ago. The park was filled with fisherman who had waded out into the water to catch “humpies.” (pink salmon). One of the fisherman is visible towards the middle of the frame.

Ponytail Falls, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Here’s a shot of Ponytail Falls, taken in the Columbia River Gorge during a cold, extremely rainy weekend earlier in the year. For some reason, I hadn’t processed this photo until this week, but I’ve been going back and revisiting my shots from that trip in anticipation of heading back down there for some fall colors next month. I can’t wait to get back out there, knee-deep in some more frigid streams.

Changing Conditions, Mt. Shuksan, North Cascades on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Took a trip up to Mt. Baker a month ago and spent the day enduring hordes of mosquitos and flies while hiking about shooting the scenery. This particular day had some stormy, unstable air, and the view of Mt. Shuksan (pictured here) was constantly changing. One minute it was clear as a bell, a few later it was completely hidden from view, and for a few fleeting minutes in between it was half covered with beautiful wispy clouds.

Solitude on Flickr.Via Flickr:
When looking for some quotes about solitude, came across this gem: “He who delights in solitude is either a wild beast or a god.” (Sir Francis Bacon) This is a self portrait, taken a few weeks ago at Cape Disappointment, on the Washington coast near the Columbia River.

Mountain Summer Storm, North Cascades, Washington State on Flickr.Via Flickr:
On a recent trip up to Mt. Baker, I was fortunate enough to catch Mt. Shuksan and Picture Lake at sunset just as a big Summer storm was blowing in. The entire scene was so dynamic and filled with such rich, deep color that I could hardly believe my eyes.
